Fairly Rough Seas Expected Along Western Coast as Showers Affect Northern to Southern Sea Areas
The Department of Meteorology has issued a marine weather advisory warning of showers and rough sea conditions in several sea areas around Sri Lanka during the next 24 hours.
According to the forecast, showers may occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Hambantota via Trincomalee, affecting large sections of the northern, eastern, and southeastern coastal waters. These conditions may lead to reduced visibility at times.
Winds are expected to be northerly to north-easterly, with speeds ranging between 30 and 40 kmph. However, wind speeds could increase up to 45 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Galle via Colombo, posing potential risks to small and medium-scale fishing vessels.
As a result, the sea areas from Puttalam to Galle via Colombo are expected to be fairly rough at times, while other sea areas around the island will remain moderate.
The Department of Meteorology advises fishing and naval communities operating in the affected regions to remain cautious, closely monitor weather updates, and take necessary safety measures before venturing into the sea.
Further advisories will be issued if conditions intensify.
