Heavy Showers and Thundershowers Expected Across Several Provinces on December 31
The Department of Meteorology forecasts showers or thundershowers at times across several provinces of Sri Lanka on December 31, with the possibility of fairly heavy rainfall and localized strong winds in certain areas.
According to the latest weather update, rainfall is expected in the Northern, Eastern, Central, North Central, and Uva provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district. Fairly heavy rainfall of around 75 mm is likely at some locations in the Central and Uva provinces, and in the districts of Batticaloa, Ampara, and Hambantota.
Additionally, showers or thundershowers may develop in several other parts of the island after 2.00 p.m., particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.
Misty conditions are expected during the early morning hours in parts of the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts, which may affect visibility.
The general public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize potential damage and ensure safety from temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
Authorities urge residents to remain vigilant and stay updated with official weather advisories.
