SRI LANKA WEATHER FORECAST FOR 29 JUNE 2026

The Department of Meteorology has forecast continued wet weather across several parts of Sri Lanka on 29 June 2026, with showers expected at intervals in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts. Some of these areas are likely to receive fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm, raising the risk of localized flooding in low-lying locations.

Meanwhile, a few showers or thundershowers are expected after 2.00 p.m. in Uva Province and the Ampara and Batticaloa districts. Residents in these regions are advised to remain alert for sudden weather changes.

In addition to rainfall, fairly strong winds of 30–40 kmph are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, as well as the Northern, North-Central, North-Western and Southern provinces, including the Trincomalee district. The public is urged to take necessary precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Sea Conditions

Weather conditions at sea are expected to remain unsettled over the next 24 hours. Showers or thundershowers will occur in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle. South-westerly winds will blow at 30–40 kmph, increasing up to 50–60 kmph at times in sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via Mannar, Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.

These coastal waters will be rough at times, while other sea areas will remain moderate. Wave heights of 2.0 to 3.0 metres are also expected from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota. Fishermen and naval communities are advised to exercise extreme caution, as strong gusty winds and very rough seas may develop during thundershowers.
