Heavy Showers and Localized Thundershowers Expected Across Sri Lanka
The Department of Meteorology has issued a general weather forecast for the next 36 hours, showers and thundershowers across several provinces of Sri Lanka, with fairly heavy rainfall expected in isolated areas.
According to the latest update, Northern, Eastern, Central, North Central, and Uva provinces, along with Hambantota district, will experience intermittent showers and thundershowers. Central and Uva provinces, as well as Batticaloa, Ampara, and Hambantota districts, may receive heavy rainfall reaching up to 75 mm in some locations, raising the risk of localized flooding and landslides.
Elsewhere, showers or thundershowers are expected at several places after 2.00 p.m., affecting scattered areas across the island.
Misty conditions are likely during the early morning hours in parts of Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, as well as in Galle and Matara districts, potentially reducing visibility, particularly along roads in hilly and coastal areas.
Residents are advised to exercise caution during thundershowers and take necessary measures to minimize damages caused by temporary strong winds, lightning, and localized heavy rainfall.
