The prevailing rainy weather across Sri Lanka is expected to continue over the next few days due to a low-level atmospheric disturbance near the island. According to the latest forecast, showers or thundershowers are expected at most places after 1.00 p.m. today.
Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely in several areas, particularly in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts. Residents in these areas are advised to remain alert for possible localized flooding and temporary disruptions caused by intense rainfall.
Meanwhile, showers are also expected during the morning hours in the Northern and Eastern provinces. Misty conditions may occur in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in the Kurunegala district during the early morning.
The Department of Meteorology has requested the public to take precautions against temporary strong winds and lightning that may accompany thundershowers.
Sea Area Forecast
Showers or thundershowers are expected in several sea areas around the island during the next 24 hours. Winds will be south-westerly or variable in direction with speeds of 25–35 kmph.
Sea conditions are expected to be slight to moderate around the island. However, temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can occur during thundershowers. Fishermen and naval communities are advised to remain cautious while at sea.
