The prevailing showery weather condition across Sri Lanka is expected to continue over the next few days due to a low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of the island. According to the latest weather forecast, showers or thundershowers will occur in most parts of the country after 1.00 p.m.
Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely at some locations in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts. In addition, showers are expected in the Western, Southern and Northern provinces during the morning hours as well.
Misty conditions can also be expected during the early morning in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in the Kurunegala district. Motorists are advised to exercise caution due to reduced visibility.
The public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions against temporary localized strong winds, lightning and heavy rainfall during thundershowers. Possible flooding in low-lying areas and minor disruptions to transportation may occur in areas receiving intense rainfall.
