SRI LANKA WEATHER FORECAST FOR TODAY, 03 February 2026

Weather conditions across Sri Lanka on 03 February 2026 are expected to remain unsettled, with rainfall affecting several parts of the island throughout the day. Several spells of showers will occur in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, and Uva provinces, as well as in the Nuwara-Eliya and Matale districts, resulting in cloudy skies and intermittent rain.

During the afternoon hours after 2.00 p.m., showers or thundershowers are likely at several places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, along with the Galle and Matara districts. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is expected at some locations in these areas. These thundershowers may be accompanied by temporary localized strong winds and lightning, posing potential risks to property and outdoor activities. The general public is advised to take adequate safety precautions, especially during periods of intense weather.

In the early morning hours, misty conditions can be expected in parts of the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, and Badulla districts. Reduced visibility is likely in these regions, particularly in hilly areas and along main roadways, and motorists are urged to drive with caution.

Showers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Pottuvil to Trincomalee via Batticaloa. Additionally, showers or thundershowers may develop at a few places in other sea areas around the island, especially during the evening or night.

Winds will be north-easterly, with speeds generally ranging between 25 and 35 kmph. At times, wind speeds may increase up to 45–50 kmph in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Mannar via Puttalam, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil. Consequently, the sea will be fairly rough at times in these regions, while other sea areas will remain moderate. Strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers, and fishermen and naval communities are advised to remain vigilant.
