Several spells of showers are forecast across parts of Sri Lanka on 24 June 2026, according to the latest weather update. Rainfall is expected mainly in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya.
Meanwhile, a few showers or thundershowers may develop in the Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m. Residents in these areas should remain alert for sudden weather changes during the afternoon and evening hours.
In addition to the rainfall, fairly strong winds of 30–40 kmph are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills and across the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, and Southern provinces, including the Trincomalee District. The public is advised to take precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.

Sea Conditions Around Sri Lanka
Weather conditions at sea are expected to remain unsettled during the next 24 hours. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
South-westerly winds will prevail with speeds of 30–40 kmph, increasing up to 50–60 kmph at times in sea areas from Kalpitiya to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
These sea areas are expected to be rough at times, while other surrounding sea areas may become fairly rough. Wave heights could increase to around 2.0–2.5 meters in the coastal waters extending from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.
Fishermen, naval operators, and coastal communities are advised to exercise caution, as temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas may occur during thundershowers.
