Weather conditions across Sri Lanka on 03 February 2026 are expected to remain unstable, with showers affecting many parts of the island throughout the day. Several spells of showers will occur in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva, and Central provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district, leading to cloudy skies and periodic rainfall.
During the afternoon hours after 2.00 p.m., showers or thundershowers are likely at several places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, along with the Galle and Matara districts. These thundershowers may be accompanied by temporary localized strong winds and lightning, which could cause minor damages to property and disruptions to daily activities. The general public is advised to take necessary safety measures during periods of intense weather.
In the early morning hours, misty conditions are expected at some locations in the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, and Badulla districts. Reduced visibility is possible in these areas, especially along hilly roads and low-lying regions, and motorists are urged to exercise caution.
Showers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Pottuvil to Trincomalee via Batticaloa. Additionally, showers or thundershowers may develop at a few places in the other sea areas around the island, particularly during the evening or night.
Winds will be north-easterly, with speeds generally between 25 and 35 kmph. Wind speeds may increase up to 45–50 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Colombo to Mannar via Puttalam, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil. Consequently, the sea will be fairly rough at times in these regions, while other sea areas will remain moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers, and fishermen and naval communities are advised to remain vigilant.
