SRI LANKA WEATHER FORECAST, 19th of JUNE 2026

Several spells of showers are expected across parts of Sri Lanka on 19 June 2026, according to the latest forecast issued by the Department of Meteorology. Rainfall activity will mainly affect the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya.

In addition, showers or thundershowers may develop at a few locations in the Uva Province and in the districts of Mullaitivu, Ampara, and Batticaloa after 2.00 p.m. Residents in these areas are advised to remain alert, as temporary localized strong winds and lightning can accompany thundershowers.

The public is urged to take necessary precautions to minimize possible damage caused by adverse weather conditions, particularly during afternoon and evening thunderstorms.

Weather Forecast for Sea Areas

Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle during the next 24 hours.

Winds around the island will be south-westerly with speeds ranging between 30 and 40 kmph. Stronger winds of 50 to 60 kmph are expected at times in the sea areas off the coast from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Meanwhile, wind speeds may increase up to 50 kmph in the sea areas extending from Trincomalee to Matara via Kankasanthurai, Mullaitivu, Kalpitiya, Colombo, and Galle.

Due to these conditions, the sea areas from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times, while sea areas from Trincomalee to Matara via Kankasanthurai, Mullaitivu, Kalpitiya, Colombo, and Galle will be fairly rough.

Fishermen and naval communities are advised to exercise caution, as strong gusty winds and very rough seas can occur temporarily during thundershowers.
