Dry Weather to Persist Across Sri Lanka Ahead of Expected Change
Mainly dry weather will continue to prevail across most parts of Sri Lanka on January 22, according to the latest weather forecast issued at 2.00 p.m. on January 21. Meteorological authorities state that the current dry weather conditions are likely to change from January 23, signaling the possibility of increased rainfall in the days that follow.
During the early morning hours, there is a possibility of ground frost at some locations in the Nuwara Eliya district, particularly in higher elevations. Farmers and residents in these areas are advised to take precautionary measures to protect crops and sensitive plants from potential cold damage.
Additionally, misty conditions are expected at several places across the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western, North-Central and Uva provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Ampara and Vavuniya districts. Motorists are urged to exercise caution due to reduced visibility, especially in hilly and low-lying areas during the early morning hours.
For sea areas around the island, mainly fair weather is expected during the next 24 hours. North-easterly to northerly winds will blow at speeds of 30 to 40 kmph, with wind speeds occasionally increasing up to 50 kmph in sea areas extending from Mannar to Galle via Colombo, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Sea conditions in these regions are expected to be rough at times, while other surrounding sea areas will remain slight to moderate.
Fishermen and naval communities are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary safety precautions while at sea.
