Sri Lanka Sea Weather Advisory: Fairly Rough Seas and Gusty Winds Expected in Several Coastal Areas

Sea conditions around Sri Lanka are expected to be moderate to fairly rough during the next 24 hours, with showers, thundershowers, and strong winds affecting several coastal sea areas, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Showers may occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via Trincomalee, particularly during the daytime. Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are likely to develop in the sea areas from Kalutara to Hambantota via Galle during the evening or night hours.
Winds will be north-easterly, with speeds generally ranging between 30 and 40 kmph. However, wind speeds may increase up to 45–50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Mullaittivu via Puttalam and Kankasanthurai, as well as from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
Due to the strengthening winds, the sea areas from Colombo to Mullaittivu via Puttalam and Kankasanthurai, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, are expected to be fairly rough at times. Sea conditions in other areas around the island will remain moderate.
The Department of Meteorology advises fishermen and naval communities to remain vigilant, closely monitor future weather updates, and exercise caution when venturing into these sea areas, especially where rough seas and strong winds are expected.
