Fairly Rough Sea Conditions Expected in Several Coastal Areas
Issued at 2.00 p.m. on 26 December 2025
Marine weather conditions around Sri Lanka are expected to be unsettled in several sea areas, according to the latest forecast.
Showers may occur at a few locations in the sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via Trincomalee. In addition, showers or isolated thundershowers are likely during the evening or night in sea areas from Kalutara to Hambantota via Galle.
North-easterly winds will prevail, with speeds of 30–40 kmph. At times, stronger winds reaching 45–50 kmph may occur in the sea areas from Colombo to Mullaittivu via Puttalam and Kankasanthurai, as well as from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
Due to these wind conditions, the sea will be fairly rough at times along the above coastal stretches. Other sea areas around the island are expected to remain moderate, though conditions may change temporarily during thundershowers.
Fishermen and small craft operators are advised to exercise caution, particularly during periods of strong winds, rough seas, and thunderstorms.
