Localized Showers and Gusty Winds Expected Across Sri Lanka Over Next 36 Hours
Issued at 04.00 p.m. on 26 December 2025
Sri Lanka is expected to experience generally mixed weather conditions during the next 36 hours, with isolated showers, afternoon thundershowers in the southwest, and strong winds in several regions, according to the Department of Meteorology.

A few showers may occur in the Northern, Eastern, and Uva Provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa, Matale, and Nuwara Eliya districts.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are likely at a few locations in the Galle, Matara, Ratnapura, and Kalutara districts, particularly after 2.00 p.m., which could result in brief heavy rainfall.
Meteorologists also warn of fairly strong winds reaching around 40 kmph at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills, the Northern Province, and in the Hambantota and Monaragala districts.

In addition, misty conditions may develop during the early morning hours in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central Provinces, including Badulla, Galle, and Matara districts, potentially affecting visibility.
The public is urged to remain alert to sudden weather changes and to take necessary precautions against lightning and localized strong winds during thundershowers.
