Rough Sea Conditions Expected in Several Coastal Areas Around Sri Lanka
The Department of Meteorology has issued a marine weather advisory warning of rough sea conditions and strong winds in several sea areas around the island during the next 24 hours.
According to the forecast, showers or thundershowers may develop in a few sea areas off the coast from Kalutara to Hambantota via Galle, particularly during the evening or night hours.
North-easterly winds are expected to blow at speeds of 30–40 kmph, with temporary strengthening up to 45–50 kmph in the sea areas from Colombo to Mannar via Puttalam and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
As a result, the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Mannar via Puttalam and from Hambantota to Pottuvil are likely to be fairly rough at times, while other sea areas around the island are expected to remain moderate.
Fishermen and naval communities are advised to be vigilant, especially in areas experiencing strong winds and rough seas. Small fishing craft operators are urged to exercise caution and pay close attention to future weather updates, particularly during evening and nighttime hours when thundershowers may occur.
