Heavy Showers Expected in Southern and Sabaragamuwa Areas This Christmas Day
Colombo – 25 December 2025:
The Department of Meteorology has forecast showery weather conditions across several parts of the island today (December 25), with fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm expected in some locations.
According to the latest weather update, a few showers may occur in the Uva Province and in Ampara, Batticaloa, Matale, and Nuwara Eliya districts during the day. Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are likely at several places in the Sabaragamuwa Province and in Galle, Matara, and Kalutara districts after 2.00 p.m., with fairly heavy rainfall anticipated at some places.
Misty conditions are expected during the early morning hours in parts of the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, as well as in Kalutara, Badulla, Galle, and Matara districts, which may affect visibility, especially for motorists.
The general public is advised to remain vigilant and take adequate precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning activity that may accompany afternoon and evening thundershowers.
Residents in rain-prone areas are encouraged to stay alert for sudden weather changes and possible localized impacts during the festive day.
