Sea Areas Around Sri Lanka: Fairly Rough Conditions Expected Along Western and Southern Coasts

The Department of Meteorology warns of unsettled sea conditions in several coastal areas around Sri Lanka during the next 24 hours, with showers, thundershowers, and strengthening winds expected at times.
According to the latest marine forecast, showers or thundershowers may develop in sea areas off the coast from Kalutara to Hambantota via Galle, particularly during the evening or night hours.
Winds will blow from the north-easterly direction with speeds ranging between 30 and 40 kmph. However, wind speeds may increase up to 45–50 kmph at times in sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Mannar via Puttalam, as well as from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
Due to these conditions, the sea areas from Colombo to Mannar via Puttalam and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota are expected to be fairly rough at times. Other sea areas surrounding the island are forecast to remain moderate.
Fishermen and naval communities are advised to remain vigilant and pay close attention to future weather updates. Small fishing craft operating in affected areas are urged to exercise caution, especially during periods of strong winds and thundershowers.
