Showery conditions are expected to persist across much of Sri Lanka over the next 36 hours as an easterly wave continues to influence the island’s weather, the Department of Meteorology said.
Tonight, showers will occur at times in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva and Central provinces. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely at some locations in the Northern and Eastern provinces and in the Polonnaruwa District. Elsewhere, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places.

Tomorrow, showers will continue at times in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva and Central provinces. Heavy rainfall above 100 mm is expected at some places in the Eastern and Central provinces, particularly in the Badulla and Polonnaruwa districts. In other areas of the island, showers or thundershowers may develop at several places after 1.00 p.m., with fairly heavy falls exceeding 75 mm likely at some locations.
Meanwhile, strong winds of about 40–50 kmph can be expected at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills, and across the Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee, Hambantota and Monaragala districts.
Misty conditions are also expected at some places in the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, and in the Galle and Matara districts, during the early morning hours.
The general public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize potential damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
