The Department of Meteorology has forecast unsettled weather conditions across several parts of Sri Lanka on 03 June 2026, with heavy rainfall, strong winds, and rough seas expected during the next 24 hours.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya. Heavy rainfall of around 100 mm is likely at some locations in these areas, raising the possibility of localized flooding and water accumulation in low-lying regions.
In addition to the rainfall, strong winds of 40–50 kmph can be expected at times across the island. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions against falling trees, damaged structures, and lightning hazards associated with thundershowers.
The general public is urged to minimize outdoor activities during severe weather conditions and ensure the safety of vulnerable property and infrastructure
Sea Conditions Around Sri Lanka
Marine weather conditions are expected to remain adverse. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.
Southwesterly winds will prevail with speeds of 30–40 kmph. Wind speeds may increase up to 50–60 kmph at times in sea areas from Mullaittivu to Pottuvil via Kankasanthurai, Mannar, Puttalam, Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota. Other surrounding sea areas may also experience winds reaching up to 50 kmph.
The sea areas along these coastal stretches will be rough at times, while other sea areas around the island will be fairly rough. Wave heights are expected to increase to between 2.0 and 2.5 metres in the sea areas from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.
Fishermen and naval communities are advised to exercise extreme caution, as temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can occur during thundershowers.
