Sri Lanka is expected to experience a generally showery weather pattern on 28 September, with several areas receiving intermittent rainfall. ,several spells of showers will occur in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Uva and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts, particularly after 2.00 p.m. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms may be accompanied by temporary localized strong winds and lightning. The public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage during these conditions.
Sea Areas Around Sri Lanka
Showers are expected at several places in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle. During the evening or night, showers or thundershowers may also occur in the sea areas extending from Mullaittivu to Pottuvil via Trincomalee and Batticaloa.
Winds around the island will be south-westerly, with speeds of 30–40 kmph. Wind speeds may occasionally increase up to 50 kmph in the sea areas extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
Sea conditions will be fairly rough at times in the coastal waters from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Wave heights may increase to around 2.0–2.5 metres in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
Temporary strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. Fishermen, naval personnel and other marine communities are advised to remain attentive to changing weather conditions and follow the latest official forecasts when planning activities at sea.
