Weather conditions across Sri Lanka on 05 February 2026 are expected to remain unsettled, with widespread showers affecting many parts of the island. Showers will occur at times in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva and Central provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely at some locations in Uva province and in the Batticaloa, Ampara, Hambantota and Nuwara-Eliya districts, which may lead to temporary water accumulation in low-lying areas.
In addition, showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in other parts of the island after 2.00 p.m., with fairly heavy showers above 50 mm expected at some locations. These weather conditions may be accompanied by lightning and strong gusty winds.
Fairly strong winds of around 30–40 kmph can be expected at times over the Northern and North-Western provinces and in the Matale, Trincomalee and Anuradhapura districts, potentially affecting daily activities and travel.
Misty conditions are likely during the early morning hours in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara and Badulla districts, reducing visibility on roads, especially in hill country areas.

For the sea areas around Sri Lanka, showers will occur at several places off the coast extending from Pottuvil to Kankasanthurai via Batticaloa and Trincomalee. Elsewhere, showers or thundershowers may develop during the evening or night.
Winds will be north-easterly at 30–40 kmph, increasing up to 45–50 kmph at times in sea areas off the coast from Colombo to Mullaitivu via Puttalam and Kankasanthurai, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. These sea areas will be fairly rough at times, while other areas remain moderate. Very rough seas and strong gusty winds may occur during thundershowers, and marine communities are advised to remain cautious.
