Fairly Rough Sea Conditions Expected in Several Coastal Areas
Marine weather conditions around Sri Lanka during the next 24 hours are expected to remain somewhat unsettled, according to the latest forecast issued at 5.30 a.m. on January 14, 2026.
A few showers are likely in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via Trincomalee, while isolated showers or thundershowers may occur in other surrounding sea areas, particularly during the evening or night.
Winds will be north-easterly, with speeds generally ranging between 25 and 35 kmph. However, wind speeds may strengthen up to 45 kmph at times, especially in the sea areas extending from Colombo to Mannar via Puttalam and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
Sea conditions in these regions are expected to be fairly rough at times, while other sea areas around the island will remain slight to moderate. Mariners and fishermen are advised to remain cautious, as temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas may develop during thundershowers.
