Fairly Rough Sea Conditions Expected in Several Coastal Areas

Marine weather conditions around Sri Lanka during the next 24 hours are expected to remain somewhat unsettled, particularly along parts of the northern, northwestern and southern coastal regions.
According to the latest forecast, a few showers are likely in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via Trincomalee. In addition, isolated showers or thundershowers may develop in other surrounding sea areas, especially during the evening or night.

Winds will be north-easterly, with speeds generally ranging between 25 and 35 kmph. However, wind speeds may increase up to 45 kmph at times, particularly in sea areas extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
Sea conditions in these regions are expected to be fairly rough at times, while other sea areas around the island will remain slight to moderate. Fishermen and naval operators are advised to remain cautious, especially during thundershowers, as temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas may occur.
