Weather conditions across Sri Lanka are expected to remain unsettled on 12 January 2026, according to the Department of Meteorology. Showers will occur at times in the Northern, North-central, Uva, Eastern and Central provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district, bringing wet conditions to large parts of the island.

In addition, showers or thundershowers are likely at several places in other areas after 1.00 p.m., particularly during the afternoon and evening hours. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm can be expected at some locations in the Eastern, Uva and Sabaragamuwa provinces, which may lead to temporary disruptions.

During the early morning hours, misty conditions are expected in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, including the Galle and Matara districts, reducing visibility in some areas.
The general public is advised to take necessary precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
