Heavy Showers and Thundershowers Expected Across Sri Lanka on December 31
The Department of Meteorology forecasts widespread showers and thundershowers across several parts of Sri Lanka today, with fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm expected in some areas.
Northern, Eastern, Central, North-Central, North-Western, and Uva provinces will experience showers or thundershowers at times throughout the day. Meteorologists warn that isolated locations in the Central, North-Western, and Uva provinces could receive heavy rainfall above 75 mm, increasing the risk of localized flooding and landslides, particularly in hilly regions.
Elsewhere across the island, afternoon and evening showers or thundershowers are likely at several places after 2.00 p.m., as atmospheric instability continues to influence weather conditions.
The Department of Meteorology urges the general public to remain vigilant and take necessary safety precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds, heavy rain, and lightning associated with thundershowers.
Residents are advised to stay updated with official weather forecasts and warnings as conditions may change rapidly.
