Fairly Rough Seas Expected in Several Coastal Areas During Next 24 Hours
The Department of Meteorology has issued a marine weather advisory warning of unsettled sea conditions in several coastal regions around Sri Lanka over the next 24 hours.
According to the forecast, showers may occur at isolated locations in sea areas from Mannar to Pottuvil via Kankasanthurai and Trincomalee. Additionally, showers or thundershowers are expected during the evening or night in sea areas from Kalutara to Hambantota via Galle.
Winds will generally be north-easterly, blowing at speeds of 30–40 kmph. However, stronger gusts reaching 45–50 kmph may occur at times in sea areas from Colombo to Mullaittivu via Puttalam and Kankasanthurai, as well as from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
Due to these wind conditions, the sea will be fairly rough at times in the affected coastal stretches. Other surrounding sea areas are expected to remain moderate, though sudden changes may occur during thundershowers.
Fishermen, small boat operators, and naval activities are advised to exercise heightened caution, particularly during periods of strong winds, rough seas, and thunderstorms.
