Heavy Afternoon Showers and Strong Winds Forecast Across Several Regions on December 26

Sri Lanka is expected to experience mixed weather conditions today, with isolated morning showers, heavy afternoon rainfall in the southwest, and gusty winds in several areas, according to the Department of Meteorology.
A few showers may develop in the Northern, Eastern, and Uva Provinces, along with the Polonnaruwa, Matale, and Nuwara Eliya districts during the day.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are expected at several locations in the Sabaragamuwa Province and in the Galle, Matara, and Kalutara districts, particularly after 2.00 p.m. Meteorologists caution that fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm may occur at some places, increasing the likelihood of localized flooding and waterlogging.
Fairly strong winds of around 40 kmph are forecast at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills, the Northern Province, and the Hambantota and Monaragala districts, which may cause temporary disruptions.
The public is advised to take necessary precautions against lightning, sudden gusty winds, and heavy rainfall, especially during afternoon and evening thundershowers.
