Showers in Several Regions, Fair Conditions Elsewhere
Issued at 2.00 p.m. on 21 December 2025
The Department of Meteorology forecasts mixed weather conditions across Sri Lanka today, with spells of showers in several provinces and generally fair weather in the remaining parts of the island.
Several spells of showers are expected in the Uva Province and in the Ampara, Batticaloa, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, and Hambantota districts, where rainfall may occur intermittently during the day.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may develop at a few locations in the Sabaragamuwa Province and in the Galle, Matara, and Kalutara districts, particularly after 2.00 p.m.
Most other areas of the island are likely to experience mainly fair weather.
Fairly strong winds of around 40 kmph are expected at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern, Eastern, North-Central, and North-Western Provinces, including the Hambantota and Monaragala districts.
In addition, misty conditions may occur in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central Provinces, along with Galle and Matara, during the early morning hours, which may reduce visibility on roads.
The general public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
