Issued at 05.30 a.m. on 21 December 2025
The Department of Meteorology forecasts continued unsettled weather conditions across several parts of Sri Lanka today, with intermittent showers, fairly strong winds, and misty conditions expected in the early morning hours.
Several spells of showers are expected in the Eastern, Uva, and Central Provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa and Hambantota districts, where rainfall may occur at intervals throughout the day.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may develop at a few locations in the Sabaragamuwa Province and in the Galle, Matara, and Kalutara districts, particularly after 2.00 p.m.
Fairly strong winds of around 40 kmph are likely at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills, the Northern, Eastern, North-Central, and North-Western Provinces, and in the Hambantota and Monaragala districts.
In addition, misty conditions can be expected in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central Provinces, along with Galle and Matara, during the early hours, which may affect visibility for road users.
The general public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
