Sri Lanka General Weather Forecast for Next 36 Hours: Showers, Strong Winds and Morning Mist Expected
Issued at 04.00 p.m. on 19 December 2025
The Department of Meteorology has forecast unsettled weather conditions across several parts of Sri Lanka over the next 36 hours, with showers, thundershowers, strong winds, and misty conditions expected in multiple regions.

According to the forecast, several spells of showers will occur in the Eastern, Uva, and Central Provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa and Hambantota districts. These conditions may lead to temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may develop at a few places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces, along with the Galle and Matara districts, mainly after 1.00 p.m., during the afternoon and evening hours.
The Meteorology Department also warns of fairly strong winds reaching speeds of about 40 kmph at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills, Northern, North-Central, and North-Western Provinces, and in Trincomalee, Hambantota, and Monaragala districts.

In addition, misty conditions are expected during the early morning hours in parts of the Sabaragamuwa, Western, and Central Provinces, as well as in Galle and Matara, which may reduce visibility for motorists.
The general public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. Residents in disaster-prone areas are urged to remain alert and follow safety guidelines issued by authorities.
