Rough Sea Conditions Expected Around Several Coastal Areas

Showery conditions are expected in many sea areas around Sri Lanka during the next 24 hours, according to the latest marine weather forecast.
Showers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee and Pottuvil. In the remaining sea areas around the island, showers or thundershowers are likely at several places, particularly during the evening or night.
Winds will be north-easterly with speeds of 30–40 kmph. However, wind speeds may increase up to 50–55 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Negombo to Galle, passing Puttalam, Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee, Pottuvil and Hambantota.
Sea conditions along these coastal stretches are expected to be rough at times, while the other sea areas around the island will remain moderate.
Mariners and fishing communities are advised to be cautious, as temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can occur during thundershowers. Appropriate safety measures should be taken before venturing into sea.
