Weather conditions across Sri Lanka on 06 February 2026 are expected to remain active and unsettled, with widespread showers affecting many regions of the country. According to the latest forecast issued at 2.00 p.m. on 05 February 2026, showers will occur at times in the Eastern, Uva and Central provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa and Hambantota districts. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely at some locations in Uva province and in the Batticaloa, Ampara, Hambantota, Matale and Nuwara-Eliya districts, raising the risk of localized flooding in low-lying and urban areas.
In the Northern province and the Anuradhapura district, several spells of showers are expected throughout the day. Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may develop at several places in other parts of the island after 2.00 p.m., with fairly heavy showers above 50 mm likely at some locations in Rathnapura, Kalutara, Galle and Matara districts. These afternoon and evening thundershowers may be accompanied by strong gusty winds and lightning.
Fairly strong winds of around 30–40 kmph can be expected at times over the Northern and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Matale, Trincomalee and Anuradhapura districts, which could cause minor damage to temporary structures and affect outdoor activities.
During the early morning hours, misty conditions are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, and in the Galle, Matara and Badulla districts, leading to reduced visibility, especially in hilly and interior areas.
For the sea areas around the island, showers will occur at several places off the coasts extending from Pottuvil to Kankasanthurai via Batticaloa and Trincomalee. Additionally, showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in other sea areas during the evening or night.
Winds will be north-easterly, with speeds of 30–40 kmph, increasing up to 45–50 kmph at times in sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Mullaittivu via Puttalam and Kankasanthurai, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. These sea areas are expected to be fairly rough at times, while other sea areas will remain moderate.
The general public, fishermen and naval communities are strongly advised to take adequate precautions against temporary localized strong winds, lightning, and very rough seas during thundershowers.
