Weather conditions across Sri Lanka on 07 February 2026 are expected to remain unsettled, with widespread showers, gusty winds, and misty conditions affecting many parts of the island, according to the latest weather forecast.
Showers will occur at times in Uva province and in the Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, Ampara and Batticaloa districts. These areas may experience periods of moderate to heavy rainfall, particularly during the daytime. Meanwhile, several spells of showers are expected in the Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district, contributing to wet conditions throughout the day.
In other parts of the island, showers or thundershowers may develop at several places after 2.00 p.m. Some of these showers are expected to be fairly heavy, with rainfall exceeding 50 mm at isolated locations. Residents in affected areas are advised to remain alert for sudden downpours, lightning, and brief strong winds during afternoon and evening hours.
Fairly strong winds, reaching speeds of about 30–40 kmph, can be expected at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces, and in the Matale, Trincomalee and Hambantota districts. These winds may cause minor disruptions, particularly to temporary structures, outdoor activities, and transport services.
During the early hours of the morning, misty conditions are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, and in the Galle, Matara and Badulla districts, reducing visibility along main roads and in hilly areas.
For the sea areas around the island, showers will occur at several places off the coasts extending from Hambantota to Trincomalee via Batticaloa. In addition, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places off the coast extending from Mannar to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle during the evening or night.
Winds over the sea areas will be north-easterly, with speeds of 30–40 kmph, increasing up to 50 kmph at times in sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. These areas are expected to experience fairly rough sea conditions, while other sea areas will remain moderate.
The general public, fishermen and naval communities are urged to take adequate precautions against temporary localized strong winds, lightning, and very rough seas during thundershowers.
