The Department of Meteorology reports that the low-pressure area over the Gulf of Mannar is weakening further, leading to a gradual reduction in its influence on Sri Lanka’s weather. As a result, overall conditions across the island are expected to slowly improve, although intermittent rainfall will continue in several regions during the next 24 hours.
Several spells of showers are forecast in the Northern, North-Central, Uva, and Eastern provinces, where moisture in the atmosphere remains relatively high. Meanwhile, a few showers may occur in the North-Western and Central provinces, particularly during the daytime hours. In other parts of the island, isolated showers or thundershowers may develop during the evening or night, mainly due to localized weather activity.
During the early morning hours, misty conditions are expected at some locations in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts. Motorists are advised to exercise caution in these areas due to reduced visibility, especially along main roads and hilly terrain.
The general public is kindly requested to take necessary precautions to minimize possible damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning that may occur during thundershowers. Residents are encouraged to stay attentive to official weather updates and advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology.
