The Department of Meteorology states that the low-pressure area over the Gulf of Mannar is weakening further, resulting in a gradual reduction of its influence on sea conditions around Sri Lanka during the next 24 hours. Accordingly, the warning previously issued to restrict fishing and naval activities in the deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Trincomalee via Puttalam, Mannar, and Kankasanthurai has been officially withdrawn.
Despite the weakening system, showers are expected at several places in the sea areas off the coast from Mannar to Batticaloa via Kankasanthurai and Trincomalee. In addition, isolated showers or thundershowers may occur in other sea areas around the island, particularly during the evening or night.
Winds are forecast to be easterly to north-easterly, with speeds ranging between 30 and 40 kmph. However, wind speeds may occasionally increase up to 50–55 kmph in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar.
Sea conditions in these areas are expected to be rough at times, while other sea areas around the island will remain moderate. Mariners and fishing communities are advised to remain attentive to updated weather forecasts and exercise caution when engaging in sea activities.
