Showery and windy weather conditions are expected to affect several parts of Sri Lanka on Thursday, 27 August 2026. Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts. Fairly heavy rainfall of around 75 mm is likely at some locations.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may develop at a few places in the Ampara, Monaragala, Hambantota and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m. Mainly dry weather is expected to prevail over most other parts of the island.
Strong winds of approximately 40–50 kmph can occur at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills, the Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces, and the Trincomalee, Monaragala, Hambantota and Matale districts. The public is advised to remain alert to temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Sea Areas and Coastal Weather
Showers may occur in sea areas from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. South-westerly winds will generally range from 30–40 kmph but may strengthen to 50–60 kmph in sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
These sea areas are expected to be rough at times. Wave heights of around 2–3 metres are possible from Colombo to Pottuvil via Galle and Matara. Coastal communities and naval and fishing communities, particularly from Beruwala to Matara via Galle, should remain vigilant due to possible swell-wave surges near the shore.
