Showery Weather to Persist Across Several Provinces on December 16

Showery conditions are expected to continue across large parts of Sri Lanka today under the influence of an Easterly wave flow affecting the island, the Meteorology Department said.
According to the forecast, showers will occur at times in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva and Central provinces. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely at some locations in the Northern and Eastern provinces as well as in the Polonnaruwa District.
In other parts of the country, showers or thundershowers may develop at several places after 1.00 p.m., particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.
Meanwhile, fairly strong winds of around 30–40 kmph can be expected at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills, and in the Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces, as well as in Trincomalee, Hambantota and Monaragala districts.
The general public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
