Heavy Rains and Strong Winds Expected Across Several Provinces
Colombo, December 15 — Showers are expected to continue across several parts of the country over the next 36 hours, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Rainfall will occur at times tonight in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva and Central provinces, with fairly heavy showers exceeding 50 mm likely at some locations.
Similar weather conditions are forecast for tomorrow, with intermittent showers continuing in the same provinces. In addition, showers or thundershowers are expected at several places in other parts of the island, particularly after 1.00 p.m.
The Meteorology Department warns that fairly strong winds of 30–40 kmph may occur at times over the Eastern slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces. Strong winds are also expected in Trincomalee, Hambantota and Monaragala districts.
Meanwhile, misty conditions are likely during the early morning hours in parts of the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, and in the Galle and Matara districts, which may affect visibility.
The general public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimise possible damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
