WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND SRI LANKA – NEXT 24 HOURS
Weather conditions in the sea areas around Sri Lanka during the next 24 hours are expected to remain moderately unsettled, according to the Department of Meteorology. Showers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via Trincomalee, bringing periods of reduced visibility and choppy seas. In addition, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few locations in the other sea areas around the island, particularly during the evening or night hours.
Winds will be mainly easterly to north-easterly, with speeds generally ranging between 25 and 35 kmph. However, wind speeds may increase up to 45 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota, leading to rougher sea conditions in these regions.
The state of the sea will be fairly rough at times in the above-mentioned coastal stretches, while other sea areas around the island are expected to remain moderate. Mariners are advised to be cautious, as temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
