Showers and Fairly Rough Seas Expected Around Sri Lanka Over Next 24 Hours
Weather conditions over the sea areas surrounding Sri Lanka are expected to remain unsettled during the next 24 hours, according to the Department of Meteorology. Showers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via Trincomalee, while showers or thundershowers may develop in other sea areas, particularly during the evening or night.
Easterly to north-easterly winds will prevail, with wind speeds generally ranging between 25 and 35 kmph. However, wind speeds may increase up to 45 kmph at times, especially in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
Due to these conditions, the sea areas along these coastal stretches will be fairly rough at times, while the remaining sea areas around the island are expected to be moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas may occur during thundershowers, and maritime communities are advised to remain attentive to changing weather conditions.
