Weather Forecast for 03 September 2026 – Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is expected to experience a mix of rainy and windy weather conditions on Thursday, 03 September 2026, as atmospheric conditions become increasingly favorable for afternoon thundershowers across several parts of the island. According to the latest weather forecast, the Northern, North-Central, Eastern and Uva provinces are likely to see increased thunderstorm activity during the coming days.
Several spells of showers are expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts. Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Uva and Eastern provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Polonnaruwa and Mullaitivu districts after 2.00 p.m.
Fairly strong winds of around 30–40 kmph may occur at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills, the North-Central and North-Western provinces, and in the Hambantota and Matale districts. The public is advised to take adequate precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Sun Directly Over Sri Lanka
The Sun is expected to be directly overhead Sri Lanka during its apparent southward movement from 28 August to 07 September. On 03 September, the Sun will be overhead near Madampe, Thorayaya, Thotagamuwa, Rattota and Kalavanchikudy at around 12.09 p.m.
Sea Weather Forecast
Several showers may occur in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle. South-westerly winds are expected at speeds of 30–40 kmph.
Wind speeds may increase to 50–60 kmph at times in the sea areas from Hambantota to Pottuvil, while speeds of up to 50 kmph are possible from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar.
The sea areas from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be rough at times, while areas from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar may become fairly rough. Wave heights could increase to around 2.0–2.5 metres in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Matara. Naval and fishing communities are advised to remain alert to changing sea conditions and follow official weather updates.
