Sri Lanka Weather Forecast for 02 September 2026
Sri Lanka is expected to experience a mix of rainy and dry weather conditions on 02 September 2026, with several areas likely to receive showers while mainly dry weather will prevail elsewhere. The forecast, highlights increased rainfall in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and several districts.
Several spells of showers are expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva Province and in the Ampara, Batticaloa and Hambantota districts after 2.00 p.m. Most other areas of the island are expected to remain mainly dry.
Fairly strong winds of around 30–40 kmph may occur at times over the western slopes of the Central hills, North-Central and North-Western provinces, as well as in Trincomalee, Hambantota and Matale districts. The public is advised to take adequate precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
A notable astronomical event will also occur on 02 September. Due to the apparent southward movement of the Sun, it will be directly overhead Sri Lanka during the period from 28 August to 07 September. Tomorrow, the Sun is expected to be overhead near Anamaduwa, Moragollagama, Dambulla, Manampitiya and Valaichchenai at around 12.10 p.m.
Sea Weather Forecast
Showers may occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Winds will be south-westerly at speeds of 30–40 kmph. Wind speeds may increase up to 50–60 kmph in the sea areas from Hambantota to Pottuvil, while speeds up to 50 kmph are possible from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar.
Sea conditions will be rough at times from Hambantota to Pottuvil and may be fairly rough from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar. Wave heights could increase to around 2.0–2.5 metres in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Matara. Marine communities are advised to remain alert and follow official weather updates.
