Weather Forecast for 04 September 2026 – Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is expected to experience a mix of showers and thundershowers on 04 September 2026, with rainfall activity mainly developing during the afternoon. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Uva, Central and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaitivu districts, after 2.00 p.m. Meanwhile, several spells of showers are expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
The public is advised to remain cautious during thundershowers, as temporary localized strong winds and lightning may occur. People should take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage and avoid exposed locations during lightning activity.
An important astronomical feature will also affect Sri Lanka during this period. Due to the apparent southward movement of the Sun, it will be directly overhead Sri Lankan latitudes from 28 August to 07 September. On 04 September, the Sun is expected to be overhead near Nittambuwa, Algama, Malwana, Aranayake, Meegahakiula and Panamkadu at around 12.09 noon.
Sea Areas Forecast
Showers may occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle during the next 24 hours. South-westerly winds are expected, with speeds of 30–40 kmph.
Wind speeds may increase up to 50–60 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil. Winds may also reach around 50 kmph in the sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar.
Sea conditions will be rough at times from Hambantota to Pottuvil and may become fairly rough from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar. Wave heights may increase to approximately 2.0–2.5 metres in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Matara. Marine communities are advised to remain alert to changing conditions, particularly during periods of strong winds and thundershowers.
