Sri Lanka is expected to experience a slight increase in rainfall over the next few days, with the southwestern parts of the island receiving the highest amounts of rain on 30 July 2026, according to the latest weather forecast. Residents in several provinces should be prepared for wet conditions, while strong winds will continue to affect many parts of the country.
Showers will occur at intervals in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely at some locations in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts. People living in low-lying and landslide-prone areas are advised to remain alert if heavy rain persists.
Most other parts of the island are expected to experience mainly dry weather. However, strong winds ranging between 40 and 50 kmph may occur at times across the Northern, North-Central, North-Western and Central provinces, as well as in the Rathnapura, Monaragala, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. The public is advised to take necessary precautions to avoid damage caused by strong winds, especially to temporary structures and roadside trees.
Sea Area Forecast
Several spells of showers are expected in the sea areas extending from Negombo to Matara via Colombo and Galle. South-westerly winds will prevail with speeds of 30–40 kmph, increasing to 50–60 kmph in the sea areas from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Kalpitiya to Mullaitivu via Mannar and Kankasanthurai. Winds may also reach 50 kmph in sea areas from Trincomalee to Mullaitivu and from Kalpitiya to Hambantota via Galle.
Sea conditions will be rough in the waters from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Kalpitiya to Mullaitivu, while other affected sea areas will be fairly rough. Wave heights may increase to 2.0–2.5 meters from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota. Fishermen and naval communities are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution before venturing into these waters.
