Showery weather is expected to continue across several parts of Sri Lanka on 23 June 2026, with the Department of Meteorology forecasting showers or thundershowers at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya.
A few showers or thundershowers may also develop in Uva Province and Batticaloa District after 2.00 p.m. Residents in affected areas are advised to remain alert, especially during the afternoon and evening hours when thunderstorm activity is more likely.
In addition to rainfall, fairly strong winds of 30–40 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern, North-Central, North-Western and Southern provinces, and in Trincomalee District. The public is urged to take necessary precautions to minimize damage caused by localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.

Sea Conditions Around Sri Lanka
Marine conditions are expected to remain unsettled over the next 24 hours. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
South-westerly winds will prevail with speeds of 30–40 kmph, increasing up to 50–60 kmph at times in the sea areas from Kalpitiya to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
These sea areas are expected to be rough at times, while other surrounding sea areas may become fairly rough. Wave heights could increase to about 2.0–2.5 metres in the coastal waters extending from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
Fishermen and naval communities are advised to exercise caution, as temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can occur during thundershowers.
