Showery weather conditions are expected to continue across several parts of Sri Lanka on 30 May, with frequent showers and thundershowers forecast in many areas. According to the latest weather update, the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, along with the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya, will experience showers or thundershowers at times throughout the day.
A few evening showers are also likely in the Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 1.00 p.m. Residents in these areas are advised to remain alert for sudden weather changes, especially during afternoon and evening hours.
Strong winds are expected over several regions of the island. Wind speeds of around 30–40 kmph may occur at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern, North-Central, North-Western and Southern provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee district. The public is advised to take precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Sea Area Forecast
Weather conditions at sea are expected to be rough over the next 24 hours. Showers or thundershowers will occur in sea areas extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Southwesterly winds will prevail with speeds between 30–40 kmph, while stronger gusts reaching 60–65 kmph are expected in sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Chilaw via Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
These sea areas are likely to become very rough at times, while other surrounding sea regions will remain fairly rough. Wave heights may rise between 2.0 and 2.5 meters in coastal waters extending from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
Naval and fishing communities are advised to exercise extreme caution due to rough seas, strong winds and possible thundershowers.
