Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur at several places across Sri Lanka after 1.00 p.m. today. The affected areas include the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, North-Central and Eastern provinces, along with the Galle and Matara districts. These afternoon showers may bring temporary heavy rainfall and occasional lightning.
In addition, morning showers are likely in the coastal areas of the Southern Province and in the Kalutara and Colombo districts, bringing wet conditions earlier in the day for these regions. Residents in these areas should be prepared for intermittent rainfall throughout the day.
Misty conditions can be expected during the early hours of the morning in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces, as well as in the Ampara district. Motorists are advised to exercise caution due to reduced visibility in these areas.
The general public is strongly advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Sea Areas Forecast (Next 24 Hours)
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Winds will be south-westerly with speeds of 25–35 kmph, increasing up to 50 kmph at times in sea areas from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
The sea will be fairly rough at times in these areas, while other sea areas around the island will be moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
