Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur in most parts of Sri Lanka after 1.00 p.m. today, bringing widespread afternoon rainfall across the island. According to the forecast issued at 5.30 a.m., fairly heavy falls exceeding 50 mm are likely at some places, particularly in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, and North-Central provinces. Residents in these areas should remain alert for possible localized flooding and disruptions.
In addition, showers are likely to occur in the coastal areas of the Western and Southern provinces during the morning hours, bringing early-day rainfall to these regions. Misty conditions may also develop in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-Central, and Uva provinces, especially during the early hours, potentially reducing visibility for motorists.
The general public is strongly advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
