Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur at most places across Sri Lanka after 1.00 p.m. today, indicating widespread unstable atmospheric conditions over the island. According to the Department of Meteorology Sri Lanka, heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely at some locations, particularly in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara and Anuradhapura districts. These conditions may lead to localized flooding and temporary disruptions.

Misty conditions can be expected during the early morning hours in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-Central and Uva provinces, along with the Galle, Matara and Kurunegala districts. Motorists are advised to exercise caution due to reduced visibility.

The general public is strongly advised to take necessary precautions to minimize damage caused by lightning, temporary strong winds and heavy downpours associated with thundershowers.

Sea Areas Forecast (Next 24 Hours)

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas surrounding the island, particularly from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota during the evening or night.

Winds will be variable in direction with speeds of 20–30 kmph. Sea conditions around the island are expected to remain slight. However, temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas may develop during thundershowers, posing risks for naval and fishing communities.
