Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur across most parts of Sri Lanka after 1.00 p.m. on 21 April 2026, according to the Department of Meteorology Sri Lanka. These widespread afternoon showers may bring significant rainfall to several regions of the island.
Heavy falls of about 100 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Anuradhapura district. Residents in these areas are advised to remain alert, as intense rainfall may lead to localized flooding and disruptions. The general public is strongly encouraged to take precautions against temporary strong winds and lightning that may accompany thundershowers.
Misty conditions are expected during the early morning hours in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-Central and Uva provinces, along with the Galle, Matara and Kurunegala districts. Motorists should be cautious due to reduced visibility.
